A Case Study
Employment Pathways
Tuttarvik Application for Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA)
The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) wanted to address barriers to employment in Nunavut by creating a tool that would make job opportunities more accessible. Together, we co-designed Tuttarvik, a bilingual mobile and web app that supports Inuit job seekers and employers alike.
The Challenge for QIA
Many Inuit job seekers faced difficulties connecting with employers, and conventional recruitment tools often failed to recognize traditional skills such as hunting, sewing, or knowledge of the land. Employers, in turn, needed a way to better reach candidates across Nunavut.
The Solution
Ampere partnered with QIA to create Tuttarvik, a platform where users can build resumes that highlight both conventional and traditional skills. Offered in Inuktitut and English, the app allows job seekers to apply directly for positions while enabling employers to post opportunities and connect with candidates in real time.
The Impact
Tuttarvik has reduced barriers to employment and created new pathways for Inuit job seekers. By reflecting cultural strengths and supporting bilingual access, the app has improved economic participation and demonstrated how digital tools can be rooted in Indigenous identity while solving modern challenges.
